DRESS CODE 101 (Backpacking Getup)

No one wants to be soaking wet while in a camping activity. So, how does one avoid incidents like this? First things first, know the condition of the place you’ll be going to.

Sun-exposed places. Hats, eyeglasses, sun block, towels, and arm sleeves are your best friends here. Change your damp clothes during rests.

Windy and humid places. Fleece, jackets, and waterproof breathable raincoats are very helpful to keep your body warm and away from cold-related sickness like hypothermia. An extra pair of socks can also prevent your wet feet from blisters.

The aforementioned group of clothing has obvious reasons on why this should be worn on where and when. You can add up gloves, scarves to complete your getup. Loose-fitting pants with tight leggings underneath will allow you to move freely while being protected from any insects that might crawl up your torso. If possible, avoid cotton fabrics and wear dri-fit shirts instead.

Still, the best thing to do is read and research about the place instead of playing the guessing game.

LIGHT IS RIGHT (Guide on Light Packing)

What could be more tiring than prepping for a trip? Documents, tickets, itineraries, places to stay at. Only the thought of it is already stressful. And packing stuff could add up to your burden if you’re in a hurry. Here are some tips on how to save space on your travel bags.

Place shoes at the bottom part of your bags. If possible, insert small things like socks and toiletries. You can transfer your liquid lotions or creams into a smaller bottle if you worry about your toiletries; transferring them into plastic packs is way better. And speaking of small things, you can also place them into the sides of the bag once all of the bigger stuff are already loaded. Rolling clothes will give you more room; using compressors will definitely squeeze in your stuff.

Last and most important tip is, don’t bring the unnecessary. You’ll be gone for a trip and not migrating.

HAPPY FEET (Choosing Hiking Boots)

Hiking does not only bring you closer to nature but it is also a good form of exercise. And just like any other sport, protective equipment are needed in hiking to safeguard you from possible accidents. Since this requires lots of walks, your footgear is your partner here. For starters, what are the factors to be considered in getting a new pair of hiking shoes?

In buying the shoes, don’t forget to bring the socks that you always use. By doing so, as early as this point, you’ll know if the shoes will work for you.

Don’t rely on your regular shoe size—not all brands have the same sizes.

Know your budget before fitting. You don’t want to end up looking for another pair after an extensive fitting only to find out that the shoes is way over budget.

Buy the shoes a week before your activity to test if you will be comfortable with it.

Check the type of hiking you’ll be attending. Try aquatic shoes if it’s a river trekking.

Now that you have the idea on choosing the right hiking shoes, never worry about calluses or swollen feet. Happy feet!
